Nyack residents start movement to impeach Bush
As violence continues overseas in Iraq, some concerned Nyack residents are organizing a grass roots movement to impeach President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.
James Ross and David Balsam say they are frustrated with the current administration. They feel those in the Bush White House should be held accountable for their decisions, especially concerning the war in Iraq.
The two plan to go before Nyack Village Board members on April 12 to present their movement. They hope by acting locally it will put pressure on Congress.
Nyack Mayor John Shields is backing the resolution. He says elected leaders should take appropriate steps to see that the president obeys the Constitution.
?I know that in and of itself we don?t have the power to impeach the president, but I think it lends credence to those in power to go forward with what they think is necessary in order to maintain the balance of powers in our country,? Shields said.
Meanwhile, Nyack Republican Party Chairman Joseph Brady-Amoon is criticizing plans to bring the resolution to the Village Board. ?It?s a total waste of taxpayers? time and resources,? Brady-Amoon said, ?They?re upset with the progress of the war that?s one thing. There are appropriate forums to take out one?s frustrations.?
