The executive board for New York City's Transport Workers Union (TWU) approved a tentative new contract with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Tuesday.

The announcement came five days after ending a bus and subway strike that stranded millions of commuters. The tentative contract would give workers a 10.9 percent raise over three years. It would also require workers to contribute to their health care plans. The union previously paid no health care premiums. However, the deal would not raise the retirement age for hires from 55 or require new employees to contribute more to their pensions.

Union members must still approve the deal. They will vote on the contract using mail-in ballots, which will be sent to them this week.
