The New York City Housing Authority is working to tackle the order backlog and make repairs before the New Year.
Maintenance Orders and Resident Engagement, or MORE, launched last month and has led to the completion of 160 maintenance orders in Throgs Neck.
NYCHA has since directed workers to five different housing complexes with backlogs, including the Patterson Houses, with the same motivation.
"The majority of residents were home, and they were happy to see us because we typically don't do this on a Saturday,” said a NYCHA representative. “And we really wanted to satisfy these jobs before the holidays."
News 12 is told that the immediate repairs included in MORE do not include the emergency health and safety repairs that are typically seen.
More than 1,000 maintenance workers were out on the field Saturday. The management office also opened to the residents with the goal of giving residents who work during the week an opportunity to come to the office and request repairs.
Some residents, however, say that they have bigger problems not eligible for immediate repair, such as spotty heat and hot water issues, that they hope won’t persist throughout the winter.
