Officials say they will increase police presence around synagogues during Yom Kippur in the wake of recent hate crimes.
Last week during Rosh Hashanah, the first of the Jewish high holidays, surveillance video caught girls throwing crates at a synagogue's windows in Williamsburg. A couple of days later in the borough, two teens were seen pulling the wig off of a Jewish woman's head.

Heading into the holiest day on the Jewish calendar, the governor and mayor are stepping in to increase patrols around synagogues and places of worship.

Police say the NYPD's counter terrorism units will be putting out over 130 police officers at various synagogues throughout the city.
Those who will be going to their schuls for Yom Kippur services say they appreciate the increased police presence.

Many say they hope the increased patrols continue even after the high holidays.
The NYPD says they will continue to work with community leaders and elected officials to make sure Jewish people feel safe in their own communities at all times.
