Rain, flooding wreaks havoc for drivers in several towns
The rain came down so hard and fast Monday night, some drivers wound up stuck in high-rising waters.
Cars were stuck in Hawthorne on several roadways, including Stephens Avenue and Memorial Drive.
A giant sinkhole added to the mess when it opened up in Mount Pleasant on Commerce Street. The street was closed so that Con Edison workers could take a closer look, and drivers were diverted to other routes.
The Saw Mill River Parkway was closed at the Taconic State Parkway due to the flooding. The Bronx River Parkway was also closed at Chatterton Avenue in White Plains.
Road crews will be working throughout the night trying to clear the water for the morning commute.
