A Stamford man has been arrested in connection to the suspicious death of a 38-year old-woman.
Hector Lopez, 42, was taken into custody at the Southwood Square apartment complex and arraigned Wednesday afternoon.
Police say Lopez withheld medical treatment to the victim – something he admitted to investigators, according to court documents.
Police have not identified the victim, but court documents suggest she was Lopez's wife and the two lived together at Southwood Square on the city's west side.
The woman died at the hospital after doctors diagnosed her with a massive brain bleed and found she had 30 to 40 bruises on her body, both fresh and old.
Police say it was Lopez's mother who called 911 after the victim was vomiting, and then became unconscious. She told police she suggested her son call for help earlier but he refused, concerned EMS staff would blame him for her bruised body.
Lopez is charged with cruelty to persons and criminal trespass, but that may be upgraded as the investigation continues.
Lopez's bond was set at $250,000 and he was ordered to have no contact with the couple's three children. In September, Lopez was banned from Southwood Square after he was accused of threatening an employee there.
Lopez has prior convictions for assault, violating a protective order and stalking.
