After speculation that Rockland County’s only Department of Motor Vehicles would close, officials announced that the West Haverstraw office will remain open.
Last year, the state was looking at closing location, but state and local lawmakers joined forces to try and stop that from happening.
Last week, officials learned their efforts to stop the closing were successful.
Those leaders broke the good news Monday morning in a press conference that the DMV is here to stay.
"The DMV is not going anywhere. You can clap for that. The DMV is staying right here in the village of Haverstraw and there is agreement at every level of government local, town, state, governor’s office. This location is not going anywhere and this is a big win for this community," says state Sen. James Skoufis (D-39).
