Tractor-trailer slams into overpass on Hutchinson River Parkway
A tractor-trailer slammed into the King Street overpass on the Hutchinson River Parkway causing delays during Friday's morning commute.
The incident happened at around 6 a.m. when the tractor-trailer that was not permitted on the parkway, got onto the northbound side of the Hutchinson River Parkway from Interstate 287.
Police say the truck driver has not been on the job long and was following a regular GPS, not a commercial GPS that tells truck drivers the parkway is off limits. The driver was issued a summons.
Officials say the truck was transporting 18,000 pounds of dry goods and nothing spilled onto the roadway. They say luckily no one was injured.
The crash caused the right lane to be closed for hours as crews had to unload the dry goods before the truck was safe to tow.
News 12 reported one month earlier on another tractor-trailer that slammed into the same overpass on the Hutchinson River Parkway.
Police say this area is a problem spot because it's so close to the 287 interchange.
