New information has been released on the arrest of an off-duty sergeant after a bar shooting over the weekend.
Michael Taback, 40, is a sergeant with the gated Village of Tuxedo Park's police. He is now suspended with pay following the shooting Friday outside of the Golden Rail Ale House in Newburgh.
Police say an argument inside the bar between the shooting victim and a woman escalated outside, when Taback used a gun to repeatedly hit the victim in the head, eventually shooting him in the leg.
News 12 is told that the gun used in the shooting was Taback's own, and not a police-issued weapon.
Taback hasn't been actively serving since August 2019 because of a line-of-duty injury.
According to a GoFundMe page created by Taback back in March, he was dragged by a car during a traffic stop and the road to recovery has been a grueling one both physically and mentally because he says he constantly relives that event over and over.
Taback also wrote that he worked with the Navy and TSA before joining law enforcement.
In response to Friday night's incident, the village's mayor tells News 12, "Our heart goes out to the victim and we wish him a swift recovery. We also stand ready to assist Taback where we can."
The village says it is cooperating fully with the town of Newburgh's investigation into Friday's shooting.
Taback is out of jail after posting $50,000 bond.
He is facing one count of assault in the shooting.
