The United States Postal Service is conducting a full investigation Sunday after mail was found dumped in the woods in Somers.
The USPS is conducting the investigation after confirming that an employee allegedly dumped the boxes in the wooded area at the intersection of Voris Drive and Wellington Lane.
Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner says this isn't the first time he's heard about mail going missing. He says five out of nine seats in the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors are vacant, but many of the employees in local bureaus are not from the area they work in.
"I've gotten daily complaints about the post office. I got one today, I got one every day," Feiner says. "They've replaced a lot of the full-time carriers with part-timers who are not familiar with the routes – they're not paid that well, so they're not that passionate about the job."
The closest house to the area is about two to three blocks away.
News 12 Westchester spoke to Assistant Special Agent Jeffrey Powers, who said that the USPS has since recovered the mail and begun the investigation.
The employee's name has not yet been released, and no charges have been filed at this time.
It is unknown what will be done with the recovered documents.
Anyone with information is asked to go to the USPS inspector general website
