"My stomach fell out," said Bill Shovan, his former athletic coach, "To me, he was like a son. It was like losing a family member."
Roy was one of 17 sailors who were killed aboard the USS Cole when a bomb, masterminded by bin Laden, was detonated alongside the ship.
The head of the school, Helen Schintz, recounted how Roy wanted to serve his country and decided upon joining the Navy.
While the years have passed and the man behind the attack is now dead, a tree at the school remains in remembrance of the boy who left an indelible mark upon the school.
