WC seniors return with 'war stories' from cruise nightmare
Raw sewage and non-working toilets were some of the biggest problems of being stranded on a cruise ship that lost electricity last week, according to a group of Yonkers seniors who just arrived home.
Legislator Bernice Spreckman says that she and her group of nearly 50 seniors drifted some 60 miles after the Carnival Splendor lost power. "The crew did a terrific job, my seniors are really terrific. I didn't see any panic whatsoever," Spreckman said.
Passengers onboard had finished a meal and had gone to bed when smoke began to fill the ship. After it was towed back to a California port, some of the seniors continued on their trip to Las Vegas.
The seniors received a refund and a ticket for a new cruise. Many say that they will take the ticket, but also say that they will be sure to bring a flashlight.
