White supremacist flyers were found near the Bronx-Yonkers border.
News 12 has learned the flyers were found in several spots along Van Cortlandt Park East. They are titled “White Excellence” and call on American and European men to stop the invasion of “black thugs” and to “stand against the spread of radical Islam.”
The group also asks people to demonstrate “white strength” by wearing white next Wednesday along Katonah Avenue.
Yonkers Councilman John Rubbo oversees the neighboring district and offered another idea.
“Instead of coming out in such a hateful way, I think we should come out and unite,” says Rubbo. “I invite communities throughout the city to maybe join the Council, which is a very diverse group of people, along with the mayor, and you know what? Let's stand at City Hall instead and let's have a day of unity.”
Friends of Van Cortlandt Park is an independent organization that promotes the park. The group says the flyers have been taken down and never made their way into Yonkers - a quarter-mile down the road.
Marty Larkin says there’s no room for hate in Yonkers, but he fears the quiet community he’s lived in for 53 years is changing. On Thursday, Larkin learned about flyers around the block in the Bronx. Larkin says the group “picked the wrong neighborhood.”
“We do need a bit more police presence over here, around the clock,” Larkin added.
