Two teens were arrested and are facing assault charges after an incident Friday night at the Merrick carnival.

Nassau police say a 13-year-old girl assaulted a 14-year-old girl and 15-year-old girl around 9:30 p.m. An additional 14-year-old girl was also arrested in relation to the incident and was charged with attacking two 15-year-old girls, dragging them to the ground by their hair before repeatedly striking them in the head.

The 15-year-old victim is from Franklin Square. Her mother told News 12 her daughter was at the carnival with two friends and her brother when she was attacked by two other teens she didn't know.

Nassau police say she was struck several times in the head and, after falling to the ground, was kicked repeatedly in the head.

"It started by the two teen girls walking up to my daughter and punching her and throwing her to the ground. She helplessly covered her face while they beat her, unprovoked, and without my daughter even trying to fight back," said the girl's mother, Kelly Moran. "The attack itself is horrifying ... that last stomp on my daughter's head could've resulted in death."

Moran says her daughter was taken to the hospital and has a concussion.

Nassau police say the 14-year-old victim was dragged to the ground and struck repeatedly in the head.

"We will not tolerate any violence against anybody in our county and when you have mass gatherings like a carnival, sometimes you get people who are going there with bad intent and we will find you, we will arrest you and you will be prosecuted," said Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman.

The 13-year-old suspect, whose name was not released, is charged with two counts of third-degree assault.

The 14-year-old suspect, whose name was also not released due to her age, was charged with four counts of third-degree assault.

Both girls are expected to appear in Family Court at a later date.

A spokesperson for Dreamland Amusements told News 12 children must be accompanied by an adult and there is both private security and Nassau police present at the carnival.

Residents are on edge and have been expressing concerns about the incident.

"The worrisome part is that the children think that it's OK to do this, to hurt others," says Merrick resident Deb Manzella.

"I am afraid because I am a little disabled and you don't know what these kids are going to do," says Merrick resident Sally Bonora.
