Town of Woodbury police say a 14-year-old girl remains hospitalized after she was struck by a car Wednesday.
Authorities say the incident happened just before 4 p.m. and that the teen, a Monroe-Woodbury High School student, was crossing Route 32 from the Woodbury Common Premium Outlet area.
The child suffered a serious head injury but was alert and conscious when she was flown to Westchester Medical Center, according to police.
Police say the driver stayed on the scene and was not charged or ticketed, but that the incident remains under investigation with the assistance of state police and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Monroe-Woodbury school superintendent Tracy Norman says the entire school community is sending their thoughts and prayers to the teen, their family and friends. Norman says counseling is available for students who need help coping with the accident.
