An ex-employee and an independent contractor are accused of stealing hundreds of gallons of fuel from a sanitation company in West Nyack.
Ronnie Ludwig, director of operations for the Miele Sanitation Company, says he became suspicious when his fuel bills skyrocketed. Ludwig says the bills were so high, he suspected someone was stealing out of a 4,000-gallon diesel tank used to fuel the 25 company trucks.
Ludwig assigned someone to keep watch over the tank. He says on Thursday, a tractor-trailer that wasn?t part of the Miele fleet pulled in to fuel up.
Clarkstown police arrested 47-year-old Rainer Rolaf, of Middletown, and 23-year-old Carlos Navarro. According to authorities, Rolaf is an independent contractor who used to work at the sanitation company. Navarro is a former Miele employee. Police say the two swiped about $750 worth of fuel. Ludwig believes the suspects are responsible for stealing 8,000 gallons.
Both Rolaf and Navarro were charged with burglary in the third degree and petit larceny. They were remanded to the Rockland County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 bail.
