Investigators say Westchester County was to be the backdrop of an alleged plot to kill a United Nations ambassador.
Two citizens of Myanmar (Burma) were charged in a White Plains federal court Friday, accused of conspiring to oust Myanmar's UN ambassador by injuring or killing him.
According to federal prosecutors, the two men were supposed to carry out the attack somewhere in Westchester County. Authorities say an arms dealer from Thailand, who sells weapons to the Burmese Army, was behind the plot.
The army in Myanmar overthrew the civilian government in February. The UN ambassador who was the alleged target of the plot is a staunch opponent of the coup.
