Two individuals have been arrested in Poughkeepsie for stealing checks from mailboxes.

Police apprehended Jasiyah Shabeleh and Raheem Angus while they were attempting to break into a mailbox on Raymond Avenue on Monday. This follows several reports of stolen checks in the area.

Investigators discovered a significant amount of stolen mail in Angus' possession. Shabeleh attempted to flee but was later apprehended at a local hotel.

During a search warrant, police found 100 stolen checks. Shabeleh was already wanted for robbing a postal worker in August.

Additionally, police found $130,000 from the August robbery in Shabeleh's hotel room. Both individuals are currently in Dutchess County Jail.
