2 Fishkill Correctional Facility inmates pronounced dead on same day
News 12 has learned that two inmates at Fishkill Correction Facility died on the same day.
Hector Camacho, 52, and Bola Adeola, 65, died Feb. 24 at the prison, according to the New York state Department of Community Corrections and Supervision.
Officials say Camacho, who was from Middletown, was found deceased in his cell and that Adeola appears to have suffered a separate medical emergency.
Camacho’s wife, Debbie Camacho, says their family is devastated and hasn’t been told how he died.
“All we ask is why. We just want answers, and the worst thing is that I can’t have anything that belongs to him – whether it was his shirt he was wearing that night or whatever. I just need something to be close,” says Camacho.
News 12 interviewed the Camacho family in 2022 for an investigative report on violence in the New York state prison system when they alleged Camacho had been assaulted by one or more guards at a different facility.
State officials say Camacho’s death is under investigation since he died ”unattended” and that Adeola’s cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner.
Family say Camacho, who was serving a 10-year sentence for charges including DWI, was scheduled to be released in 3 ½ years. Adeola was serving 25 years to life in prison for criminal sale of a controlled substance and conspiracy for crimes committed in Queens County, according to DOCCS.
