2 Tappan Zee Bridge towers complete
Construction crews working on the new Tappan Zee Bridge have hit a new milestone as two of the main towers on the new span are now complete.
Tappan Zee Constructors, the group building the bridge, says two towers are now complete, and crews are scheduled to complete all four westbound towers in the coming weeks. The tall columns on the westbound main span have now reached their ultimate height of 419 feet above the Hudson River.
Earlier this month, the giant super crane installed the final steel girder for the westbound span. Those girders will help support the new road deck.
Within the next week, crews will begin to realign traffic lanes on the New York State Thruway in the area of where the Tarrytown toll plaza used to be. This will allow crews to prepare the site for future New York State Police Troop barracks.
The lane adjustment may impact the eastbound traffic patterns next Friday, so there might by some lane closures during the overnight hours.
