Two Sullivan County parents accused of causing the death of their 16-month-old toddler were back in court Wednesday.

Lisa Keitt and Jimmie Luvert arrived separately and never saw each other for the back-to-back appearances in Village of Liberty Court.

The parents were there for the first time since they were last together and saw their daughter alive.

Luvert cursed at News 12 when he was escorted in by sheriff’s deputies in handcuffs and shackles.

His wife, Lisa Keitt, was brought in on a separate transport and said nothing.

The Liberty couple is accused of smoking fentanyl in front of their two young children and passing out inside their motel room earlier this month at the Knights Inn.

Police say their 16-month-old toddler, Akaasha Luvert, got ahold of the deadly drug and died. Her 3-month-old brother, the couple’s other child, survived.

The parents' cases were put off until June pending their indictment, at which point the charges will be handled in county court. Keitt’s attorney Gerald Gray said his client is upset and sorry.

“She’s very remorseful. She’s going to be living a life sentence of guilt one way or another,” said Gray.

Keitt is also facing four misdemeanor shoplifting charges in Liberty.

Luvert’s attorney declined to comment. The acting Sullivan County district attorney is holding a news conference Thursday about the case. It's expected their indictments will be announced.
