Massachusetts State Police say the 79-year-old pilot suffered a medical emergency upon final approach.

His passenger then tried to land the aircraft. Massachusetts State Police said. The hard landing caused the aircraft's left wing to break in half, Massachusetts state police said.

Both the pilot and passenger are from Connecticut and were taken to the hospital.
