Cannabis retail licenses are on hold for another two weeks after a hearing Friday in Ulster County.

As News 12 reported on Monday, a state Supreme Court judge issued an order barring the state's Office of Cannabis Management from issuing new licenses and granting operational approvals for businesses with existing ones.

The court ruling followed a lawsuit from disabled veterans who claim the license violates the state Constitution.

The state started by awarding the first licenses to people convicted of drug-related offenses as a way to improve social equity.

The Cannabis Association of New York says it's severely disappointed by the judge's decision.

The group wrote that the Legislature should hold a special session to avoid legal issues and address the danger of shops opening illegally.
