Danny DeVito is returning to Broadway and is co-starring alongside his daughter, Lucy DeVito, in "I Need That."

Danny DeVito plays a pack rat named Sam who is on the verge of becoming a hoarder and is at risk of losing his home. Lucy DeVito plays his daughter.

"Lucy has been acting since high school. And we've always talked about doing it (a Broadway play). We've done a couple little things together," says DeVito.

The DeVito's did a Zoom reading of "I Need That" during the COVID-19 pandemic, which began their journey to Broadway in the play written by Theresa Rebeck. The younger DeVito says acting in her Broadway debut with her father comes with pressure but also a sense of security.

"There's also a very relaxed nature about it because we already have that history built in," Lucy says. "So, we're always going to have each other's back."

Lucy DeVito's mother is actress Rhea Perlman, with whom she has previously performed on stage.

Danny DeVito was last on Broadway in 2017 in Arthur Miller's "The Price" for which he received a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Play. He is best known for his television and film roles, including the series "Taxi," "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," and films including "Throw Momma From The Train,” which he also directed, "Ruthless People," "Batman Returns," and "Matilda."

"I Need That," a production of Roundabout Theatre Company, is directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel and begins performances at American Airlines Theatre on Oct. 13 through Dec. 23.
