On the first night of Hanukkah, the City of Mount Vernon held its annual menorah and Christmas tree lighting ceremony at City Hall Plaza, for all to enjoy.
The night of festivities kicked off with the menorah lighting by Rabbi Morris, from the Sinai Free Synagogue, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness. It was followed by a special singing by the Sinai Free Synagogue Choir.
In addition to the recognition of the Jewish Festival of Lights, 60 students from The Denzel Washington School of the Arts illuminated the city's Christmas tree. After lighting the tree, the talented students from the school's choir also performed. Mount Vernon residents who attended were also given complimentary Christmas trees and wreaths.
