Eduardo Martinez-Rojas, a 30-year-old resident of Highland Mills, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Orange County District Attorney for the rape of a child. Martinez-Rojas pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a child under the age of thirteen. In addition to his prison term, he will serve 10 years of probation and will be registered as a sex offender.

A house on Long Ridge Road in Bedford damaged by fire had to be demolished after fire officials deemed it unsafe. Firefighters battled thick smoke emanating from the top and sides of the home. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Sen. Charles Schumer (D) announced that $24 million in federal funds will be allocated to strengthen flood mitigation efforts along a critical stretch of Route 6 in Westchester County. The funding will elevate a small segment of the road from Roa Hook Road to Camp Smith in the town of Cortlandt by seven feet. This initiative aims to ensure the roadway remains passable during periods of severe weather and rising sea levels.
