SUNY Purchase on Monday announced it has created a “protest zone” following police breaking up of a student encampment.

The encampment was removed on Sunday morning following three days of pro-Palestinian protests and last Thursday night’s arrests of 70 students and professors.

"I started to get texts from her, fire alarms were going off, police were everywhere and she was frightened!" said parent Lori Deutsch.

Deutsch’s daughter goes to the school but wasn’t involved in the protests.

"I kept looking for the school to reach out, there's news coverage but no communication,” added Deutsch.

The school did send out a campus wide email announcing the creation of the "protest zone" on the college's great lawn, to be used by demonstrators between 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. They say it will allow protestors to use the newly designated area outside of quiet hours.

The quad area of the university can no longer be used for future protests.
