David Berkowitz, the "Son of Sam" killer, has been denied parole for the 12th time, according to the state corrections department website. The 70-year-old former Yonkers resident was sentenced to 25 years to life in 1978 for murdering six people and wounding seven others in a series of shootings that terrorized New York City.
Monticello police have identified the victim in a deadly shooting outside an apartment building. Police say Amy Redmond and another man were struck by gunfire outside the Sleepy Hollow apartment complex on Tuesday. Redmond later died. Authorities are still searching for the shooter.
A man is facing charges following a crash involving a car and a train in Ulster County. The county sheriff reports that a car was hit by a CSX train Tuesday near Esopus Avenue. No victims were found inside or around the car. Police later discovered that the driver, David Rivera, had intentionally abandoned his vehicle on the tracks while fleeing from police. Rivera was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
