Utility bills can be high these days but imagine getting a water bill for $73,991.58!
South Blooming Grove homeowner Chris Maderia got the five-figure bill for three months of water service earlier this month. He says the village admitted it was a mistake and has since sent him a corrected bill for his normal monthly usage, which is about $260.
Maderia says he opened the bill on a Saturday and had to wait several businesses days to get it resolved. He feels the error should’ve been flagged before it was even mailed out.
“I could only imagine if I was an elderly person or I had some health issues and [I] opened that bill. Something like that, I feel should’ve been caught by the person preparing the bill,” says Maderia.
Maderia is well-known in South Blooming Grove for sharing his concerns about several village issues with local and state officials. He recently spoke out at a recent village board meeting against a controversial no-bid sanitation contract.
News 12 reached out to the mayor of South Blooming Grove about the bill but hasn't heard back.
