Several Putnam and Dutchess county beaches are closed due to harmful algae blooms.
In Putnam County, Jackson Beach, Carrara's Beach, and Warren Beach are all currently off-limits to the public. Blue-green algae, which produces toxins that can be dangerous to both humans and animals, is responsible for the closures.

Symptoms of exposure to blue-green algae toxins include headaches, ear, nose and throat irritation, skin rashes, difficulty breathing, nausea and vomiting.

In Dutchess County, blue-green algae is also closing the waterfront at Wilcox Park, officials said. The area will remain closed through next weekend.
However, the new spray-ground water area is open. The hours are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., every day, weather permitting.
