Fire damages Yonkers home, leaving six families homeless

Officials say a fire tore through a three-story home in Yonkers, leaving six families without a place to live.
The fire started around 4:30 a.m. Sunday at 25-27 Riverview Place, causing significant damage to the building's interior, despite its seemingly minor exterior damage.
Fire officials say the blaze likely originated in a garbage pile stacked against the side of the building.
More than three dozen firefighters responded to the scene, bringing the flames under control in about 40 minutes. Three firefighters suffered minor injuries but are expected to recover.
While the fire caused some damage to the adjacent building, the residents of the affected building were able to salvage some of their belongings.
The third floor suffered the most damage, and it remains unclear if anyone will be able to return to the building anytime soon.
One resident expressed gratitude, saying, "We were very blessed. I went in to grab my bag. As far as damage from water or fire, nothing. Which is excellent."
