UPDATE: Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman released the following statement on Sunday- "the flags in Nassau County will be at half-staff for President Carter from the commencement of Lying in State on January 7th through burial on January 9th.”

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul directed flags to be flown at half-staff after former President Jimmy Carter died on Dec. 29 at the age of 100, but it appears that Nassau County has kept some of them raised.

The flag at the Nassau Legislature building was fully raised on Saturday. The same was true at Nassau Police Headquarters.

However, the U.S. flags outside of the courts in Nassau were lowered.

A spokesperson for Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman refused to comment, saying no one is available.

Hochul ordered flags at half-staff through Jan. 28.

Suffolk County officials say their flags have been lowered to half-staff since Dec. 30 and will remain so.

"He wasn't who I voted for, but I still agree that you need to be civil and do the right thing for somebody right. He was still a president. They should lower the flags," said Stuart Gelb, of Roslyn.

"I'm a sympathizer to Jimmy Carter and I think they should," said Joe Angelo, of Syosset.

As of Saturday evening, Blakeman had not publicly explained why some of the flags had not been lowered at county-operated buildings.

Carter's state funeral began Saturday in the state of Georgia.

The White House says his official funeral will be Jan. 9 in Washington, D.C.
