The grandmother of the 17-year-old Peekskill girl, who has been missing for nearly two months, is speaking out for the first time ever.

Doranda Cole said the last couple of weeks have been very challenging for her.

She said her 17-year-old granddaughter, Amari Murphy, of Peekskill, was reported missing back on Jan. 25. Her disappearance still remains a mystery months later.

"I don't know where she is. No one's heard from her. She's made no contact with anyone," Cole said.

Cole said her loved one was possibly last seen in the Bronx.

"As far as the police, they basically said...she's considered a runaway. They really haven't done anything," Cole said.

Cole claimed the devastating disappearance hasn't been taken seriously, until recently.

"Being that I reported her to you guys...Now everybody's scattering and I'm not going to say it's too late, but now it's behind the ball," Cole said.

The Peekskill Police Department issued News 12 a statement saying its "detective division is actively attempting to locate 17-year-old Amari Murphy."

Cole had this message for granddaughter.

"I want my grandchild to know that I love her, I miss her, and that she can home with me," Cole said.

Peekskill police are asking anyone with information about Murphy's whereabouts to give them a call.
