Revitalization project in West Nyack unearths piece of history

An old glass bottle believed to be from a drugstore in Nyack more than 100 years ago was recently found in West Nyack.
Officials are learning the store was open in the 1800's to early 1900's.
Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann showed News 12 the item that has "C.R. Christy, Druggist, Nyack, N.Y." on it. He adds it was recently unearthed under West Nyack Road by those working on a revitalization project.
"Despite it being one of the small hamlets in our town, it's one of the most historic." Supervisor Hoehmann said. "It's pretty neat to find something in history that's likely 125 years old and this well-preserved underground."
The New City Library also provided the businesses advertisements from more than a century ago. One showed the store had a payphone back then, too.
Hoehmann theorizes what the liquid inside the bottle may be, "there's some advertisements about a 'Miracle Elixir' that will help you stop chewing tobacco and will help you get over coughing."
He says the bottle will eventually be on display in Town Hall.
Other items were also said to be found when the road was being dug up, like horse manure and layers of old roads, like the Nyack Turnpike.
