A memorial is growing outside the home where an 11-year-old boy was fatally shot on North Miller Street in Newburgh.

People in the community say they are hurting.

"I think the community is just still numb," says Coach Harold Rayford.

Police haven't released the victim's identity.

However, many people who live around the neighborhood know who he is.

They say he was a good kid. He was a student in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District.

"Seeing a young one go like that, it's sad because he could have been something," says Newburgh resident Omar Thomas.

A balloon release happened Friday evening. Crowds gathered to honor and remember the young boy.

Neighbors and friends tell News 12 they are keeping the boy's family in their hearts during this difficult time.

"I feel for the family, I know it's going to be very difficult for them and I pray they make it through it," Thomas tells News 12.
