An investigation is continuing in Putnam County after a deputy of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office was hit by a car during an investigation in Southeast.

Officials say it happened just after 8:30 p.m. on Monday on Sodom Road when a suspect’s vehicle tried to flee the scene and struck the deputy.

"A lot of police came to this area, like 20-30 cars, sheriff, police and everything,” said a resident in the area.

Despite being injured, the deputy was able to fire at the vehicle, injuring the suspect.

Residents in the area say it’s usually a quiet and safe town. It’s not often that they see this massive of a police presence.

Identities of the deputy and suspect have not been released.

The deputy was taken to one hospital, and the suspect was taken to another hospital.
