An officer was placed on administrative leave following an arrest at Peekskill Park on Wednesday that prompted serious concerns.

Video footage shows a Peekskill police officer engaging with a man at the gazebo in Riverfront Green Park.

Following an exchange between the two individuals, the officer appears to deploy a Taser and proceeds to kick and punch the man to the ground.

Shortly after, additional officers arrive at the scene.

Police have not released information regarding the circumstances that led to the arrest.

In a statement, the City of Peekskill acknowledged the situation, stating, "We recognize that the cell phone video capturing part of the arrest has raised significant concern, and we want the public to know that we take this matter extremely seriously. The video is troubling and raises serious questions about what transpired — specifically regarding the officer’s conduct and use of force."

Peekskill city officials say that all evidence related to the incident has been forwarded to the Westchester County District Attorney's Office for an independent investigation.

An attorney for the Peekskill PBA had no comment on the video.

The video has garnered strong reactions in the community.

"It doesn't make any sense. That was really uncalled for, that was really vulgar and it was just out right ridiculous," says Peekskill resident Shakeya Washington.

Police are encouraging anyone with additional information, including video or witness accounts on the incident, to come forward.
