Full service between Albany and Penn Station is returning in March as Amtrak restores suspended and combined Empire Service trains.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the change on Tuesday. Service had been cut last year because of construction on two Manhattan‑bound rail tunnels.

In the meantime, Metro‑North has been running trains between Albany and Grand Central Station.

Hochul said she pushed for Amtrak to restore the full schedule for riders who depend on travel between New York City, the Hudson Valley and the Capital Region.

She said Amtrak will no longer sanction temporary Metro‑North service to Albany once Empire Service is fully restored.

She added that she remains committed to long‑term transit improvements, including possible expanded Metro‑North service if demand exists.
