Starting this week, D.A.S.H., which stands for the "District Attorney's Safer Highway" initiative, will be enforced, meaning more state trooper presence on both I-684 and the Sprain Brook Parkway.

The initiative is jointly conducted by the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, New York State Police Troop K and the organization, Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

The goal is to enforce traffic safety laws and curb reckless driving throughout February on both highways.

"Whether it's speeding, swerving, cutting someone off, drowsy driving or road rage, frequently alcohol or drugs, all of these behaviors put the rest of us in danger," said Westchester County Attorney Susan Cacace.

Troop K Commander Major Daniel Smith says both highways were chosen because they have a high number of incidents reported.

Since 2020, he says DWI arrests have increased by 41% and there has been a 10% increase of car crashes over the past five years.

"Dangerous driving will be met with enforcement and accountability. At the same time, this effort is about safety. Our goal is to change behavior and prevent crashes, and save lives," said Commander Major Smith with New York State Police Troop K.

District Attorney Cacace says the initiative's statistics will be released at the end of the month.
