Marist alum brings glory to Seattle and Poughkeepsie as he sets another NFL record at Super Bowl LX

"I saw everyone was reposting it," Marist junior Jaylen Rizzo said. "People I didn't even know supported Marist were reposting. I was like, 'Wow.' This is a lot of coverage that we don't usually get."

Marist University's campus is abuzz after one of the school's alumni made history at the Super Bowl.

Students in Marist University's sports communication program are coming down after a wild week.

They attended Super Bowl LX Media Week in the San Francisco Bay Area, where they snuck up on Seattle Seahawks place kicker Jason Myers - Marist class of 2013.

"We said we were from Marist," junior William Rosen said Monday during News 12's visit to campus. "[He's] a very mild-mannered guy, but he was happy we were there."

Before coming back to campus Saturday, the students presented Myers with a limited-edition Jason Myers bobblehead.

After setting records at Marist, Myers played for several professional football teams before settling in Seattle.
Myers then set a number of NFL records.
The most recent was from Sunday night when he made five straight field goals.

"I saw everyone was reposting it," junior Jaylen Rizzo said. "People I didn't even know supported Marist were reposting. I was like, 'Wow.' This is a lot of coverage that we don't usually get."
Suddenly, the students had more work to do.

"I went and got my computer during the game," senior Ben Leeds said. "I was like, 'I gotta throw something together quick' so we can have something on the website."

Myers' coach at Marist, now-retired Jim Parady, was at the game.

Reached Monday by phone, he was still processing, "waking up going over all the things that happened yesterday."

I'm just so happy for him," Parady said. "Just incredible, as I sit here and think about it."

Marist's media director and current football coach said they plan to hold some kind of tribute on campus at some point for Myers.

Right now, though, they are still just enjoying the red hot buzz about the Red hot Foxes, courtesy of Jason Myers.

Myers is not just the only Marist alumnus to play in the Super Bowl; he's also the only one win a major sports championship.

Rik "The Dunking Dutchman" Smits, Marist class of 1988, went to the NBA Finals in 2000 with the Indiana Pacers, but the Pacers lost the series four games to two.
