Hiring experts say tools used by many job seekers may be making it harder for employers to fill open positions. The president of the recruiting firm Robert Half said more applicants are now using AI to create resumes and cover letters.

She said 65% of employers reported that AI‑generated resumes make it more difficult to understand what applicants can actually do. “There are so many resumes coming in now and many of them looking very similar, that it’s taking companies longer to go through and longer to vet things to make sure people really have the skills that are on their resume,” said Dawn Fay, Robert Half operational president.

Experts recommended making sure the final resume and cover letter accurately reflect the applicant’s true skills and experience. They also advised reaching out directly to hiring managers after applying and asking about the timeline.
