A 24‑year‑old man is recovering in the hospital after a violent and seemingly random assault in the Soundview section of the Bronx, according to police and the victim’s family.

The man’s mother, Aracely, tells News 12 that her son had just left a family quinceañera early Sunday morning when two men approached him near Westchester and Morrison Avenue. What began as a brief verbal exchange, escalated within seconds.

Police say one of the suspects struck the victim with a metal pipe, while the other slashed him across the abdomen before both fled westbound on Westchester Avenue. Surveillance images released by investigators show the two men believed to be involved.

Aracely says her son did not know the attackers and believes the assault was completely unprovoked. She described the moment she learned what happened as “a mother’s worst nightmare.”

Despite serious injuries, her son is now focused on healing. The family is urging anyone who recognizes the suspects to contact police.

The NYPD is asking anyone with information to come forward.
