A Sussex County man was sentenced to seven years in prison for attempting to sexually assault someone he believed was a minor, the New Jersey Attorney General's Office said.
Larry M. Noel, 49, of Stanhope, was sentenced March 27 in Superior Court in Bergen County. He is also subject to lifetime parole supervision and was ordered to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law.
According to authorities, Noel contacted an undercover officer on April 11, 2019, on social media while the officer was posing as a 14-year-old. Prosecutors said Noel identified himself as a 29-year-old man, asked to meet the “child,” and indicated he wanted to perform sexual acts.
Authorities said Noel arranged to meet the supposed child at a location in Bergen County, where he was arrested upon arrival.
The investigation was part of “Operation Home Alone,” conducted by the New Jersey Regional Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, a multi-agency partnership.
A jury convicted Noel on Nov. 12, 2025 of luring, attempted sexual assault, and attempted endangering the welfare of a child by impairing or debauching the morals of a child.
