More than 20 families remain displaced nearly a month after a fire tore through the Red Rock Preserve apartment complex. The fire left dozens of residents without homes and forced many into temporary housing.
The community has rallied together to support the approximately 65 residents impacted by the March blaze.
A storage space filled wall-to-wall with donated goods now serves as a hub for displaced families. Parents within the Branchburg school district have led much of the effort, have organized and coordinated donations ranging from clothing to household essentials.
Several displaced residents have been staying in a local hotel since the fire. It's a temporary solution made possible largely through fundraising efforts led by the Branchburg PTO.
Residents say they have also not been able to return to their apartments to retrieve personal belongings.
Some families were expected to check out of their hotel rooms as early as Sunday. That timeline was extended after a local church stepped in to provide a few additional nights of lodging.
Many residents say finding longer-term housing on such short notice has been extremely difficult, as they continue searching for stability in the wake of the fire.
