Lawmakers at the state capitol are moving forward with controversial legislation that would let people sleep in their cars. A key committee advanced a bill this week that allowed people to sleep or eat in public spaces and sleep in their car.

Panhandling would also be allowed, as well as accessing medical care unless there is "a danger to public health or safety."
