Police hold emergency response drill at MetLife Stadium ahead of FIFA World Cup

New Jersey Transit Police and multiple partner agencies conducted a training exercise Saturday morning at MetLife Stadium as part of security preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, officials said.
The New Jersey Transit Police Department’s Office of Emergency Management led the emergency response drill, which began at 7 a.m. and simulated a transportation incident, according to NJ Transit.
Officials said the exercise lasted about three hours and involved federal, state, county and local partners. Police and emergency personnel had an increased presence in and around MetLife Stadium during the operation.
The drill was limited to the stadium and its immediate surrounding area and was not open to the public.
NJ Transit said the drill did not impact train and bus service.
NJ Transit Police said the agency conducts multiple drills and training sessions each year across the statewide system to prepare for a range of transportation emergency scenarios.
MetLife Stadium, which will be temporarily renamed New York-New Jersey Stadium for the event, will host eight World Cup matches, including the final.
