Neighbors are now sounding the alarm after a leak in the sidewalk has caused water to stream down the street for weeks in Gravesend.

News 12 cameras captured the leak on West 11th Street. The water is coming out of the curb and flows nearly the entire length of the corridor from Avenue V to Avenue W.

Neighbors say it has been going on for almost a month and is making it difficult to travel.

"Just being able to cross the street and go over like a river in a way," neighbor Dupree McCullen said. "It’s been tough."

It has also been hard for residents like Miguel Gomez, who have had to navigate the water with his wheelchair.

“It’s bad," Gomez said, "because this chair can’t get wet.”

He says he has had to go out of his way to cross the street in dry areas.

The water is also accumulating into a puddle that measures more than 2 inches in depth.

News 12 reached out to the city's Department of Environmental Protection after seeing the leak. A spokesperson for DEP says the agency is "aware of the issue" and repairs are scheduled for Wednesday, April 22.
