A long‑unsolved killing reached a turning point Tuesday as the family of Lisa McBride spoke publicly for the first time since an arrest was made.
The arrest comes nearly 36 years after McBride was last seen, with her remains later found in Sandyston in Sussex County.
In a statement released by the family, they said they lived for weeks, then months, then years and decades without justice and with questions they believed would never be answered.
McBride’s remains were discovered in October 1990.
A North Carolina man, Robert McCaffrey Jr., has been named the suspect.
Police said his DNA was linked to the case after it was entered into a national database following his wife’s disappearance 14 years ago, prosecutors said.
McCaffrey is now 54 years old and is facing several charges.
