Nassau County police are investigating a robbery targeting a delivery driver in Freeport, where the homeowner says she never placed the food order that brought the driver there.
Home security footage captured the moment two men approached a Chinese food delivery driver on Maple Street and stole the driver’s wallet. During the incident, a third suspect was seen going through the driver’s car. All three men were later spotted near the vehicle before fleeing the scene.
The footage was recorded by homeowner Nikole Bohari, who described the incident as unusual for the neighborhood.
"This never happens down here, someone getting robbed on a dead-end street," Bohari said.
Bohari said police told her the case may be part of a broader pattern.
"They told me this has been going on the last two weeks and the car the guys were in was a stolen car. They knew it was probably the same guys doing the same robberies for the past couple weeks and they've been trying to catch them," she said.
The incident is prompting local businesses to take additional precautions.
"My guys, what they do is call the homeowner when they are in front of the house. That I made a rule," said Rocky Napoli, the owner of Atlantic Pizzeria and Restaurant. "Because there was a lot of people, that when they got to their houses, they say they didn't order food."
Residents in the area are also urging caution and speaking out about the risks.
"If someone is ordering food, just stay in the car until they come out," said Julissa St. Hilaire.
"Hardworking people are coming out here just trying to do their job and deliver food, and they are getting stopped and robbed," said Robert Washington. "It's a good thing this individual didn't get murdered in this instance."
