Fairfield carnival canceled due to disorderly crowds, safety concerns

The Jennings Beach Carnival that was scheduled for Saturday and Sunday has been canceled following significant public safety concerns following the events that took place Friday night.
Friday night saw Fairfield and Bridgeport police officers respond to large, disorderly crowds, made up of mostly unsupervised juveniles according to police.
Officials say that throughout the evening many reported potential gun shots which led to panic and crowd surges.
Police say that they have found no evidence to confirm that shots had been fired.
The situation continued to escalate and led to crowds gathering at a surrounding Chick-Fil-A, where additional fights broke out.
The Fairfield Police Department and State Police were able to handle the situation and protect public safety.
Police say the decision to cancel the remainder of the carnival was made in the interest of public safety and supported by the McKinley PTA, which sponsored the carnival.
